As night follows day, various people are on their feet working towards making a difference in the lives of their communities from which they hail, their Countries, Continents and the World. These are our CHANGE MAKERS!
It is with profound joy and happiness that Members, Management and Staff of the International Community of Women living with HIV Eastern Africa (CWEA) shares with you the Great News of Our Executive Director’s appointment to the Board of Directors of the International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM). Lillian joins IPM’s Board after having previously served on the Independent Data and Safety Monitoring Board of IPM 032 – an open-label extension study of the Dapivirine Ring and having spent several years advocating for female-controlled preventive options and choices.
IPM is a non-profit making organization dedicated to developing new HIV prevention tools like the Dapivirine Ring and other Sexual and Reproductive Health Technologies for women, and making them available in developing countries and low-resource settings. Upon her appointment, the IPM announced that they had appointed “Two Leading Advocates (Lillian being one of those) at the Forefront of Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and HIV Prevention” to their Board of Directors.
Lillian is a co-lead on Individual, household & Community Setting for the Global Partnership to Eliminate All Forms of HIV-Related Stigma and Discrimination; and is a member of the WHO’s Global Validation Advisory Committee for elimination of eMTCT & Syphilis. Other awards for Lillian including the 2019 CHANGE Courageous Changemaker Award, the 2016 Uganda HIV&AIDS Leadership Award, the 2015 Justice Makers Award and the 2014 Inaugural Sisterhood Award from ICW.
As an organization, we are proud of Lillian Mworeko for her leadership that has for so long not only brought bigger and better days for women and girls in all their diversity but also the communities of PLHIV, Key and Vulnerable Populations.
“Women in sub-Saharan Africa continue to shoulder the burden of HIV, and their needs and lived experiences must be prioritized when it comes to HIV prevention efforts,” “I look forward to working as a member of IPM’s Board to ensure that women can access a range of prevention choices so they can control their health on their own terms” Lillian committed
We congratulate our team leader upon her well deserving appointment considering; and since she is a long-time advocate for increasing the number of women-controlled reproductive health and HIV prevention tools, options and choices, we can authoritatively say, women’s voices will increase on that platform and that she has our support to deliver on that mandate.
Congratulations Lillian, ICWEA and our partners who have been supportive of the HIV prevention agenda.
