In Uganda, the Civil Society organisations, people living with and at high risk of HIV under the leadership of the International Community of Women living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA) together with Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) and HEPS Uganda, continue to engage in different processes with the aim of ensuring better quality HIV/TB and other related services and that these services are easily available, accessibile and acceptable.
Under the Community Led Monitoring (CLM) approach, the communities continue to engage in PEPFAR planning processes and are already engaged in the PEPFAR 2021 Country Operational Planning (COP).
ICWEA coordinated and mobilised CSOs and communities to participate in PEPFAR In-Country Strategic Retreat (21st – 22nd Jan 2021) one of the COP processes, joining other stakeholders including Government of Uganda leadership, development partners, Faith Based Institutions/Organizations, private sector and other implementing partners.
The retreat presented an opportunity for people living with and at high risk of HIV among others to share their priorities for inclusion in COP21. This is an ongoing process and will climax into PEPFAR’s Regional Planning Meeting in March 2021- which will draft COP21. We continue to encourage communities living and higher risk of HIV&TB to engage in these processes. If your country is a beneficiary of Pepfar, reach out to know which CSOs or network is leading the community engagement processes so that you can join and provide input.
